Marie-Claire UK Beauty and Style Editor Lisa Oxenham is able to see the big picture for new beauty trends. In a series of conferences on the Decléor Yacht during Pro Beauty last February, she let us in on what will be big next in our beauty routines. Here’s a selection of some of her most noteworthy insights:
Essential Oils are back: for healing skin, smoothing hair or simply lifting spirits. Their effects can be physical, chemical and emotional and they’re naturally antibiotic. My favorite is Neroli essential oil, the main ingredient for Hydra Floral Hydrating Light Cream, which delivers 24H skin hydration. I love to inhale the aroma of this oil in the morning, breathing it in three times in a row, a quick way to relax for the day ahead. If you haven’t tried it yet, do it now… you’ll thank me later.
Focus on skin protection: it’s extremely important nowadays. Simply safeguarding against climatic conditions is no longer sufficient, we have to shield our skin from pollution especially in big cities. Summer is the worst time of year for pollution exposure as heat accelerates poisonous ozone formation which can be up to 10 times stronger in cities! We need to build a skin barrier especially for the hot weather. Try probiotics onto the skin, their job is capturing foreign particles like pollution and bacteria. They are going to be huge in the next few years.
The beauty as a whole perspective: it’s not just about organic, but natural product as well. Likewise the psychology of beauty has never been more important; strong fit bodies are dethroning fragile skinnier silhouettes. Last but not least every drop of water counts, optimizing the skin’s ability to hydrate is key. Fun fact: there will be many new skincare coaching apps to play with.
